Sunny Day and the Brunching is Easy

Brunch is always a fun summer outing on a lazy Sunday morning. There is something about brunch that makes it the event of the day. Unlike other meals, satisfying your hunger is only part of it; Relaxing, hanging with friends, and enjoying the (hopefully) nice weather out on a porch encompasses all that is brunch. Colorado has been lacking in the title of “300 days of sunshine” state as our summer has been fairly overcast and rainy. I can count on one hand how many times I have been to the pool and brunch this summer. Even volleyball at the park has been so infrequent which last summer we spent almost every weekend playing. I am not trying to complain here, but I am just hoping for a beautiful August to help end the summer on a high note!

As if P17 uptown bistro does not offer enough, they also have brunch on the weekends! They have a cute, fairly large patio that wraps around their corner spot on 17th street. We happened to go on a beautiful sunny Sunday (did I mention I also played volleyball that day? Weird what the weather can do πŸ™‚ ). They have an incredible (the best I have seen) selection of different flavored mimosas. They have honeydew, watermelon, grapefruit, cranberry, orange, and pineapple. Though they definitely have plenty of options, I suggested they get cantaloupe because that would be amazing!

We tried the watermelon, honeydew, and grapefruit. The watermelon was super delicious and not too sweet at all. It was very refreshing. I am not a honeydew person but I thought it was good as a mimosa- it had a light bitterness to it. Grapefruit is always a favorite of mine πŸ™‚ If you are not like us and trying every flavor, you can get bottomless mimosas or a carafe. However, I believe you can only get orange and cranberry for those.

We started with the P17 french toast small plate- yes, we started with dessert! πŸ˜€ This unique french toast is stuffed with blueberries, walnuts & ricotta, and then crusted with corn flakes and deep fried. Are you drooling yet? It is then topped with crΓ¨me anglaise and blueberry coulis. It was a thick hard shell to cut into but not too hard and the cheese and blueberry center was so yummy!

For the main dishes we decided on the biscuits and gravy and the Uptown omelette. Biscuits and gravy is something I rarely order but the description sounded too amazing to pass up: House-made buttermilk biscuits, sage-chicken gravy, two poached eggs, home fries & simple salad. Then for a little extra you can add fried chicken and that is a great addition! It was a chicken thigh that was cooked so perfectly and full of flavor. The gravy was light and very tasty with everything. I very much enjoyed this dish!

The Uptown omelette came with summer vegetables, tomatoes, arugula & ricotta, home fries & green salad. It was a very tasty omelette- I love anything with ricotta. It was nothing particularly special but I think every brunch menu needs to have a good omelette πŸ™‚ The home fries served with both meals were very good and I loved the little side of arugula with the omelette.

One other item that we did not order but that sounded divine was the Brioche french toast with whipped cinnamon butter, maple syrup, and a side of bacon. This I must go back to try!

We tried some of the other cocktails on the menu. The Bloody Mary was light and yummy with a good hint of horseradish, I believe. It was nothing fancy though and I would probably stick with mimosas in the future. We also tried the Harvey and the Isle of Capri. The Harvey has Corazon tequila, basil, lime, pompelmo, and jalapeΓ±o sea salt. It was amazing! The Isle of Capri was Aperol, St. Germaine, orange blossom water, and prosecco. It was also a good cocktail but the Harvey was something I would drink more so.

Overall, we had a great time at P17 for brunch. It is a good spot for it and now I am wanting to get back to try a couple more items on the menu! It is making my stomach growl just thinking about it πŸ™‚ If you want to read more about P17 check out another one of my posts about them.

  3. I’m hungry…and I’m scrolling past all your wonderful photos of food and drink(s)… when I arrived at the photo of the poached eggs with house-made buttermilk biscuits & sage-chicken gravy… I said out-loud… DAMN !!! ; o )

  4. I love a great brunch with plenty of offerings πŸ™‚ I still remember the one brunch that I took my family for Mother’s Day years ago and we left stuffed – amazing eats and drinks and desserts and pretty much could have it your way on a lot of the eats too.
